I bought one of these because there were no reviews to tell me not to. I’m suggesting you save your money for a gas powered unit if you are serious about splitting logs.

This unit is sold on basis it will handle 12-18″ logs 20″ long. It won’t. It will handle small limbs and logs that are very soft or loose grained. It will further reduce pieces that are already split but may be too large for your particular application. Any serious log it will just stop and retract with the log impaled on the wedge. The only full sized log it has handled so far was an insect eaten apple tree trunk.

You will spend more time trying to find the one log it will handle and not just tossing out the occasional one that it won’t.

I found myself going out to buy a maul so I can reduce the logs in order to further process them on the new splitter. If that makes sense to you then go ahead and try one. However, once you get it, there is no provision for return if you are not satisfied.

I was very surprised to find the raw power of this machine, it is more than adequate for most logs you can lift. I’m more than pleased with the price. Brad

I used this splitter to split red oak, logs were 18 to over 22 inches in diamater and no more then 20 inches long… I would recommend this splitter to friends as long as you split with the grain of the log you will have no problems with this machine…..

needs bigger wheels n wheel base, better (longer) handle to move from point a to point b, have only run into one really knotty round that it just couldn’t handle…. so far so good!2.5 cords n counting.

would give it 5 stars if it didn’t tip over on uneven ground getting it to splitting area!

We were a bit sceptical being used to a splitter hooked up to end-loader at home but hard to get to our Lake of the Woods, Ontario island property. Have split unseasoned pine, birch & ash over 20″ and have not been stopped or had to swing the maul yet. Had to reposition or flip a few but no sweat. Do wish the ram would travel a bit closer to the splitting edge and plan to connect two levers to one a bit longer but no big deal. The speed is comparable to our big splitter. Have done a couple of cords so far and no problems. Easy to transport and quite affordable. Can buy several of these for the price of a gas outfit. No brainer if you have power available.
