only on small logs, and not nearly as efficient as gas powered splitters.
It is so much faster to split by hand. There is an art to splitting wood by hand and if you can get someone to teach you, it is a fun way to get some good exercise. I can split, using a good splitting ax faster than a gas powered machine and I am 70 years old. But I can not tell you how to do it. You can only learn by having someone knock it in to you with a Hickory limb. That is how I learned.
