@steakswans
It is Douglas Fir….live in PNW on Olympic Peninsula…
Pretty straight grain wood..some nuts…not bad to split…I only split D-fir….

By steakswans on July 25th, 2010 at 9:33 pm

that is impressive mate, what sort of wood is that?

Splitting by hand is barbaric !!! Not even the Amish split firewood by hand anymore. Even they are hip to the hydraulics, daddy-o. BTW my hydraulic log splitter is super awesome. hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

@penn707 If you do like physical work, then pay someone else to do it that’s even easier than hydraulics – not everyone has a hydraulic splitter and if the crap hits the fan, what kind of shape are you going to be sitting around drinking iced tea without any physical conditioning or the right tools make certain you keep warm…remember just waddle to the FEMA station and they’ll take care of you…

I split wood by hand and with a wood splitter. Splitting by hand is tremendous exercise, I really like that Fiskar, I’m going to get one.

By replexanossega on July 25th, 2010 at 10:50 pm

@penn707
Sorry that I have to disappoint you Penn707….I DON’T CARE if you have a hundred times faster hydraulic splitter….Ask your mama to put you on a diet….you are probably just a spoiled kid, that haven’t learned how to work with your body….

BTW….you FedEx me the hickory logs, I promise to post a video splitting them with my Fiskars…..Condition=FedEx, we do not have Hickory here in The Pacific North West…
Now go back to your video game and iced tea…..

@H95Shooterv12
I think you can get this Fiskars Super splitting Axe Model# 7854….You are going to grow taller, in a few years you are at least 5’8″…..and 160lbs full of muscles…Amazon have them in stock for 33$ just now…..Thats a great price….my local store price is 49$….
Life time warranty…..Life time splitting tool…..Good luck!!

My hydraulic splitter is a million times faster than your stupid ass hand splitter. You might split the first one faster but I will blow you away in the long run. I will laugh as you sweat and toil .I will drink iced tea while you stand there in your soggy underwear whacking away.

Lets see you split some oak or hickory. I will destroy you…

nicee cutting

By MacCairnie on July 26th, 2010 at 3:22 am

@TheFalloutMasta Something I find helpful is to keep my feet square. It makes sure all your core strength is directed in one line at the wood. Also, make sure you’re swinging the axe down the center of your body for maximum power- not over one shoulder- and that you don’t back-swing behind your head. Just before you pull the axe down- and it is a pulling motion- your axe should be vertical, but no further back than that.

By MacCairnie on July 26th, 2010 at 3:22 am

@zodiacair You’d be amazed at how well using an axe can work out kinks in your back, though. It’s not something you want to do if you’re looking for efficiency, but you don’t pay for gas and it gives you a strong core.

By MacCairnie on July 26th, 2010 at 3:55 am

That’s lovely wood- a good straight grain. Splitting conifers is a pleasure.

By replexanossega on July 26th, 2010 at 4:33 am

@zodiacair
This is fresh wood, Douglas fir….pretty straight grain and some nuts….glad you like your new log splitter….I like mine too…..

By zodiacair on July 26th, 2010 at 5:19 am

I used to split seasoned / dry cuts like that until got tired of sore hands and back. And you can’t split fresh cut wood like that easily.

I bought a 6.5 hp gas wood splitter and split all day long and never get tired.

Hand axes are for dinosaurs.

By replexanossega on July 26th, 2010 at 6:40 am

@TheFalloutMasta
Hi kid!
It depends on your body size….at 13 I would go with a little shorter handle and lighter head….
maybe the
Model: 7856
SPLITTING AXE-17 INCH
or
Model: 7853
SPLITTING AXE-23.5 INCH

but if you are 5’6″ or taller, you might handle the FSS…..good luck…

Ps…..remember the short backsving and the vrist snap, for better control…. :-)
