This video shows a log splitter that I designed and built a few years ago. I built it mostly from ideas in my head. I made a few scetches to help decide where to put the hinge point on the beam. I did all of the welding myself. It has a 5″ cylinder with a 24″ stroke. It developes 34 tons of splitting force. The I-beam is 8 X 8 X 5/8 thick steel, very heavy. I have split logs that were over 4 ft. in Dia. You get a lot of satisfaction from building something like this.

HAS ABOUT A 20 TON FORCE I RECKON , CONSIDERING THE ENGINE IS ONLY RATED A 1.5HP IT DOES VERY WELL IF A LITTLE SLOW BUT ITS SOOOOOOOOOOOO CHEAP TO RUN, I’VE ONLY FILLED THE TANK ONCE IN 8 MONTHS! ENGINE HAS HAD A RECONDITIONED FUEL PUMP ON IT AND NOW STARTS VERY EASILY. HAS A STRAIGHT THROUGH EXHAUST WITH AN ADD ON SILENCER TO KEEP THE NEIGHBOURS HAPPY! THE RAM DOES LEAK A LITTLE BUT ITS NOT TOO BAD. WHEN I BUILT IT I DIDNT EXPECT THE LITTLE PETTER TO RUN IT BUT BECAUSE OF THE HUGE AMOUNT OF MOMENTUM THE FLYWHEEL CREATES IT JUST KEEPS GOING.
